3 Ways to Encourage Creativity This Fourth of July

Posted by Little Obsessed on 12th Jun 2017

You know that we all love the fireworks, but did you know that there’s more to the Fourth of July than flags and cookouts? As a parent, it can be tough to encourage creativity in your child; take this holiday to let your child explore the magic of his or her imagination! Here are four fun activities that you can use this Fourth of July to help unlock your child’s inner creative potential.

1) Bake up some treats. Cooking doesn’t have to be boring! With a little bit of food coloring and the right equipment, children can help you to create red, white, and blue breakfast treats, cupcakes, cookies, or even layered cakes! Check out our variety of mini pans, cutters, molds & baking supplies, here.

2) Ask them to write about their holiday. According to experts, one of the top ways to encourage literacy and English skills in your child is to have them write regularly and consistently. Ask your child to write a story about your family, and encourage crazy details and plot points to help stimulate their imagination. Have plenty of coloring and activity books around to - it's the kind of time that can be spent inside or out!  Carrying around a  gratitude & acts of kindness mini journal encourages not only spelling and literacy skills, but empathy as well.  It also allows them to write, share and preserve special moments with friends & family.

3) See the stars. Every child knows that the Fourth of July means fireworks, but they may not be aware or even noticed the other astronomical wonders right above their heads! If you go out to see the fireworks, stick around after the event, and point out stars to your child. Ask them to connect the dots of the stars, and ask whether or not they see any shapes or animals in the sky. Live in an area that doesn’t get a chance to view the night sky very often? An  Earth, Mars & Moon marble set can be all the fun of astronomy, taken with your wherever you go.
